was the 2009 Uefa Champions League Final a reality check for United fans, players and manager?
remember the build up to that final ?
all of the united faithful were like ‘were going to win back-2-back’ european cups.
hah.
yeah like f@ck you were.
all im saying is - what transpired on that glorious night, was poetic justice and common sense.
you never stood a <beep> chance that night, it was Barcelona FC not Chelski going out on pens to you like the year before.
Also United’s beating chelsea in the UCL final of 2008 doesnt compare to what we accomplished that night at Istanbul.
we faced far superior opposition, had the odds stacked HEAVILY against us - we were written off of ANY chance of winning it prior to the game starting, and when we were 0-3 down ppl bet heavily on us NOT winning the trophy.
or at least those who bet their houses and cars on Milan winning from the off, were shocked.
This is why United are not anywhere near the biggest or most stylish club on the globe - no way.
they dont have the sex appeal of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Ac Milan or even Juventus.
Too bad Barcelona proved you all wrong and gave you all a reality check that night.
To think Mr.Carrick & Company stood a chance against Barcelona that night is shameful to the game, and direspectful to Barcelona and all those who follow the truth of the game.
thats all.
WE WON IT 5IVE TIMES haha
^_^
EDIT: any United fans brave enough to get on skybet and put ?100 that they’ll win the UCL this year ?
how about making a bet with me that you WONT win it ?
you won’t. get over it.
Bit harsh mate. We controlled Barca expertly the season before, allowing them to play in front of us at Camp Nou before outplaying them at Old Trafford. Sure, they were the better side on the night the following season in Rome, and were the best side overall throughout that season, but we had our chances too. I respect what Liverpool did that night in Istanbul, and it was amazing to watch but that’s no reason to devalue a team which has won three consecutive PL titles and appeared in two consecutive CL finals.
As for our global standing, we’ve always had a large worldwide support, largely stemming from the Munich disaster but bear in mind that we weren’t big in footballing terms in the 90s. The English league was considerably weaker than several continental leagues (which was largely due to the suspension of English clubs from European competition in the late 80s), and in terms of appeal we were way behind the clubs that you mention then because of it. However, this decade I’d suggest that we’ve caught up with those teams in terms of reputation as our league has re-established itself - we’re respected throughout Europe, you won’t hear any team saying that Manchester United is an easy game, including Barca.
It’s always more likely that a team won’t win the CL than win it, because of the number of quality teams in the competition. We have as good a chance of anybody though of reaching the final, and who knows, we may just have a good day and lift the trophy for the fourth time. If it’s Barca, fine - we’ve beaten them before, we can do it again, although they would understandably be favourites.

you won it 5 times, yea like 20 years ago! What has liverpool done lately? I think you should go back to the hole where you came frome. Liverpool will be lucky to earn 6th place. If it were not for Torres you guys will be nowhere!

Bit of a silly time for a liverpool fan to be questioning man utd’s chances when the only thing they’re in the running for is 4th place ( if that!)!

Not really. Was Liverpool getting knocked out in like the group stage a wake up call for liverpool? Or was it them sucking in the premier league as well?

Um what has Liverpool done this season. NOTHING

Wow that was full on mate.
Winning against Chelsea in pens doesn’t matter, a wins a win and it had to come down to that anyway.
I wouldn’t say any United fan went into the final last season knowing we’re gonna win it. We’re not stupid mate, we know a threat in Messi, Xavi, Inesta etc when we see one. So Barce winning, fair enough, the better team at the time won.
As for this season, i would never count United out as any football fan must admit, they’re playing some great football at the moment.
No longer the biggest or most stylish clubs in the world… i agree we’re not what we used to be, but we’re still somewhere up there.
The funniest thing of all is this is coming from a Liverpool fan.

what a bit of ranting and raving, typical of a liverpool fan, who has nothing going for him, so he picks on something he hates the most- man utd. living in the past, as usual. it’s a scary place to live in mate, so for your own sanity leave it where it belongs and move forward. otherwise it will eat you up.denial is a psychological condition, get some help!
